 SESSION SECRETS Minimize

Did you know that the Session meets every month (well, almost) on the 4th Tuesday. Their task is set forth in the Presbyterian Book of Order. It is responsible for the mission and governance of the local congregation. The list of duties contains 19 items but its most important task is to serve as leaders in defining the mission and direction of the congregation and assuring that everything we do is in support of that mission. At the November meeting, the session set forth guidelines for the coming year. See what you think. The session proposes the following for a statement of our vision for  the coming year.

In response to Christ's call and by the power of the Holy Spirit we will grow in our discipleship and meet human needs as we:

  • Gather for worship and nurture
  • Go out to share our faith
  • Do acts of mercy and justice
  • Invite others to learn to be disciples with us

What do you think? What does this mean for you personally? What does it mean for Community Presbyterian? We want to hear from you. Write us at coolcompres@gmail.com

    WELCOME FRIENDS

As of April 18 the folks from New Life Christian Center began worshiping in our sanctuary. We are delighted to welcome them. A six-month renewable lease has been signed for $1,000 per month. They are renting the sanctuary for approximately 8 hours per week for Sunday morning worship, Wednesday evening bible study, and praise band and other rehearsals.

SUMMER WORSHIP

Beginning May 16, we will be having our Sunday Morning Worship in the Fellowship Hall.

News and Views

(Happenings around the Church)

If you have been by the church reccently, you have noticed there is a new roof being placed on the Fellowship Hall. The last wind storms made us painfully aware that the old roof was disintegrating and needed to be replaced. In  addition, we learned that a sizeable flock of pigeons had taken up residence inside the attic, raising their young and generally being obnoxious. At the time the issue was being considered, the session asked to have estimates from two contractors. Estimates were to consider 1) replacement with materials comperable to that now on the roof and 2) replacement with metal roofing comparab;e to that on the sanctuary. When the bids were reviewed, metal roofing costs would be more than double that for using material comparable to what was on the building. For this reason, the session decided not to use metal roofing. The contract for the roofing and the pigeon cleanup was awarded to Brian Bohag for an estimated cost of $11,400 to be paid from Kathleen Davids Trust Funds.

Plans are underway to plant flowers along the front of the church on Third St.  In the fall, catsclaw vine will be planted along the fence bordering the bank parking lot. If you are interested in providing a "helping hand" please contact Rich Wiese, Pat Dixon or Ann.

You have probably noticed several changes in the worship services.   Changes are being tried in the "order of worship". The use of music has changed. All of this represents an effort to enliven the worship experience and to introduce some new elements in our liturgy. We'd like to hear from you. What do you like? dislike? Some new idea?

There are also some additional changes in the sanctuary. A screen and projector in the right front enables us to use power point presentations and the projection of entertainment and educational videos and DVD's. A portable projector facilitates presentation options in other locations in our facilities.

The heavy wooden tables in the Basement have been replaced with new, lighter ones facilitating preparations for meals and other events. New card tables were purchased for use in the Fellowship hall.

You will want to see the new Banners placed between the windows on the porch entrance to the sanctuary on Third St. These were a gift. They were designed by Hugh Miller's daughter and reflect four major themes that define our ministry and mission: JUSTICE, LOVE, SPIRIT and PEACE.
